Why Relocate to Malta ?

Ever since the turn of the millennium the Maltese Government has laid down the foundations for Malta to become the hub in the Mediterranean in six specific areas which are set to be the strong pillars of our economy; Information and Communication Technology, Financial Services, Tourism, Higher Education, Health and the Manufacturing Industry.

Otherwise known as Vision 2015, the Government has set out a strategy that has been developed to fuel our economy to make up for the lack of natural resources we have in Malta. Malta is strategically located in the centre of the Mediterranean and today with the low cost airlines and the right infrastructure Malta is the ideal gateway to Europe and Africa.

ACCOMMODATION STANDARDS

We feel it is imperative to know that the standard of accommodations that Malta has to offer is of quality European standards;

Hotels

Malta can also accommodate for the standard expected. With no less than 5 major five star hotel chains operating from St. Julian’s, Valletta and Mellieha, Malta can also boast as being a destination that can accommodate for the elite as well as the budget travellers in four and three star hotels.

Residential Property for rent and for sale

The standard of rental property as well as property available for sale is very high. One can find various types of property available; apartments (inland and seafront), maisonettes, condominium style properties with communal pool, marina apartments, villa apartments, 300 / 400 hundred year old townhouses, farmhouses and houses of character as well as villas & bungalows with/pool.

Commercial Property for rent and for sale

One can find office space developed to the approved European standards in various locations including Sliema, Valletta, St. Julians and other prime areas. Factories, warehouses as well as Manufacturing plants are also available in Malta.

TOURISM

Malta has always been a popular destination for tourists. Ancient history dating back to 7000 B.C., beautiful Mediterranean clear blue seas, sandy and rock beaches, low crime rate and a lifestyle of wonderful food and modern bars has attracted many a million tourists a year. In 2007, tourism increased by eleven percent thanks to low cost airline flights and a spin off from Malta becoming more popular in the business community amongst other reasons.

ICT, IGAMING & COMMUNICATIONS

The Government has created attractive tax incentives for ICT, Communication and iGaming companies to set up and operate their businesses on our Islands. Having a built a strong infrastructure to accommodate these firms we are already bearing fruit from these efforts and are attracting a major market share from the iGaming Industry, various ICT companies, as well as communication companies.

SMART CITY

Government signed an agreement with a Dubai based company for the development of a highly specialised project. Dubbed ‘Smart City’ this development, offering a harmonious blend of office, residential and retail spaces, will encompass a surface area of 360, 000 sq metres. Geographically located in the South of the island, the project is destined to create close to some 6,000 jobs (approx 5% of the local workforce) all for an unprecedented net capital investment of €698,000. This landmark project is set to establish Malta on the global map for the IT industry, attracting a number of leading companies of the likes of Microsoft, IBM and Hewlett Packard ready to relocate to Malta.

FINANCE

The Maltese Government is planning to increase the work force in the finance industry to 10,000 people which will double its contribution to the GDP making that figure 25% by 2010. A number of local and foreign banks, insurance firms, (ex International Trading Companies) will all contribute to this. Financial Services are growing fast and the Malta Financial Services Corporation (Malta’s regulating body) and Finance Malta initiatives are bearing fruit. Malta is already considered to be one of the top financial centres in Europe.

EDUCATION

Higher Education is a success story in Malta. The Malta College for Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) is the first European Institute which has received the prestigious Edexcel International Centre of Excellence Award. A total of 3,000 applications are submitted every year by students ready to start a course be it foundation level, diploma or degree. The University of Malta is also attracted many foreign students due to its high level education and low cost.

HEALTH

Malta’s vision is to become a major destination for foreign patients to enjoy the specialised facilities that ‘Mater Dei’, Malta’s new €900m state-of-the-art Public Hospital has to offer. The General Hospital is free to locals and EU residents and will attract people from around the globe who are not just looking for the best in health services but also the right all year round climate so beneficial for the post-op recovery process. This is thought to offer the potential for yielding a considerable income which will then be reinvested back into the health sector.

MANUFACTURING

The Manufacturing Industry has a very good future; the likes of Methode Electronics, Activist, FXB and De la Rue are all success stories in this sector. Lufthansa Technik set up a base in Malta four years ago and is now on the verge of investing another €50m into its operation necessitating an increase in its workforce from 200 to 550.

Between 2008 and 2013 Malta will have access to special funds set aside by the European Union. Projects, essentially falling within the scope of Vision 2015, will have high possibility of qualifying for financial support from this fund which has been established at €855m.
